JAPAN

We were so excited to have El Grego come and visit our school and watch him do lots of amazing tricks! We saw a really pretty parrot, a bird come out of a blackboard picture, a box of money change into a rabbit and a whole lot of other cool tricks - all the while we learned about different types of bullying and how uncool it is.

El Grego with his special parrot

Our Juandre got to go up and have his shoe transformed in the box - we all saw him put it in the box, but somehow it ended up in the white box in the background!

CAPACITY! How much can it hold?

We have been learning about capacity. To help us learn, we read the story about The Three Little Bears. Mrs Seumanu visited the Three Little Bear’s home and asked to borrow some of their containers. We had fun finding out which containers had the biggest capacity. Then we could tell which container belonged to Father Bear, Mother Bear and Baby Bear!
All ready for measuring!

Huntar carefully pouring

Is it going to spill?? Tapaita has Harrison, Finn and Huntar carefully observing her!

We used beans and water to fill the containers. We used different measuring tools to measure the amount of water or beans to fill the containers.

For the beans, we used this
It is a lid from a Dettol spray can.
We couldn’t use the lid when we used water to measure because it has a little hole in itsee!

Water would have spilled out the bottom and then we wouldn’t be sure if each lid of water measured the same.

So instead, we used this!

We thought it would be a good
idea to fill it up to the line, then
water wouldn’t spill from the top.
We had to be very careful!

We can now tell you how we can find out which of The Three Bear’s containers have the biggest capacity!

Here is our display of the different containers we measured, and how much each container holds.

We also now know that The Three Bears use a lot of cream to go on their porridge!

A4's Class Sharing

Hey everyone!
We were on class sharing in assembly this week, but we decided to take it easy and relax at assembly, so we created an awesome video clip to show everyone how we learn our doubles! Take a look and see what we get up to and then...test your little ones to see if they remember their doubles facts!

FLOATING AND SINKING

Today we started our science investigation. Our mission is to investigate why some things float and some things sink.
We started off deciding on some ideas of why we think some things float or sink.
Here are our ideas so far:

I wonder if our ideas will change after we have done a few tests?

We waste no time! Check out the fun we had investigating what floats and what sinks!

Will it float or sink? Noah is about to find out what the milk bottle will do!

Wow, we all thought that the orange will sink to the bottom!

Isaac is surprised that the tin foil floated! We were all surprised by that one!

Some of us celebrated when our predictions were correct!

Will the lime float if we push it down? Nope, it popped right back up again!

Stay tuned for more fun throughout the term as we figure out WHY some things float and some things sink!

This Term we have a Science focus and I have to say, it is the most exciting term of the year! This year we are looking at God's laws of physics and how these laws never change, just like God never changes (our Christian Living Focus).
We have a Science table set up in the class for the children to investigate and question what is on there and most importantly, WHY God made it that way.
Here are a few photos of the children taking a look at the interesting things on the table!

Thursday, 7 April 2016

We spent the afternoon creating things out of recyclables to go with our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle unit. We had so much fun creating robots, rockets, cars and space stations! These children are so creative!
